JMC Talk: Lierence Li

The JMC Talk on September 24, 2024 invited Lierence Li, HKSYU’s alumnus and Managing Director at Market Hubs, shared insights on artificial intelligence (AI). Li believes that using open AI tools such as ChatGPT can help reporters in their work. Students with journalistic backgrounds can leverage AI tools better than others because they can use the 5W1H method to ask questions and give precise commands to refine the results. This talk sparked new ideas and helped students understand the transformative power of AI in shaping industries and everyday life.

SYUJC Newsletter Aug Edition

The latest edition of the SYUJC newsletter featured JC alumni of 2009 Patrick Ng, who currently works as a Senior Digital News Editor for Chinese newspaper am730. A former editor-in-chief of student internship website Shuo Online, Ng devotes his career in journalism after graduation and specializes in areas such as sports, international and China-related news editing and reporting. He spoke highly of the family-like environment during his university life, and said it helped built a strong-bond social and career network. The newsletter also covered the Department’s summer events, including a seminar on Hong Kong films with JC alumni and award-winning director Vicky Wong joining us as a speaker.

Media Training Class under the E-League Programme

The Department welcomed more than 20 secondary school students on August 1, 2024, to our media training class organized under the E-League Programme by the Eastern District Office. Participants were brought to the real-world live reporting scenario through a VR immersive learning experience, in which they learnt how to make ethical news judgments. Running on its fourth year, the Department aspires to promote media literacy among the younger generation in a local context.
