Deputy Chief Secretary Mr. Cheuk Wing-hing, who presented the awards, praised quality journalism and stressed the importance of accurate, balanced reporting in promoting social progress.

JMC Talk: Mr. Terry Dao, Mr. Dino Fung and Dr. Camellia Ng

Leading experts of Extended Reality (XR) technology have joined us at the JMC Talk on Nov 5, 2024, to discuss the opportunities in business and art with XR. Mr. Terry Dao, founder and president of the Hong Kong XR Association, emphasized the diverse roles in the XR industry, from artistic creators to business strategists and intermediaries bridging the two. Mr. Dino Fung, a partner of XRE Technology Startup, highlighted the importance of audience preparation in immersive experiences, noting that technology enhances but creativity drives engagement. HKSYU Assistant Professor of Sociology Dr. Camellia Ng, underscored XR’s role in cultural preservation, citing its use in restoring Notre-Dame Cathedral after the 2019 fire.

HKSYU signed MOU with Hong Kong XR Association

The University has formalized its collaboration with the Hong Kong XR Association through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) exchange ceremony, held at the campus on Nov 5, 2024. Dr. Jason Chow, HKSYU Vice President (Administration), highlighted the significance of academia-industry partnerships in cultivating talent for the creative industries, and expressed hopes for future collaborative projects integrating Extended Reality (XR) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) fields from cultural preservation to multimedia production and game design. Mr. Terry Dao, founder and president of the Hong Kong XR Association, pledged ample internship opportunities for our students to support XR innovation.
