Research Paper Coauthored by Dr. Dennis Leung awarded the Top Conference Paper

A research paper on media-police relations in Hong Kong co-authored by Assistant Professor Dr. Dennis Leung from HKSYU and Dr. Gary Tang from the Hang Seng University of Hong Kong was awarded the First Place Paper in the Political Communication Division of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC) 2023 Annual Conference. The paper, entitled “Press-Police Relations after Critical Event: Media Representations of Police Misconduct in Post-Social Movement Hong Kong”, examined the media portrayal of the police’s image after the radical protests in 2019.

In the same conference, Dr. Leung and Dr. Tang also presented another research paper entitled “Facebook and Policing during a Crisis and Post-Crisis Autocratization: The Case of Hong Kong”. This paper examined how the Hong Kong Police Force made use of social media for policing before, during, and after the radical protests in 2019.

The AEJMC Annual Conference is a top academic conference in the field of journalism and communication studies. The 2023 annual conference was held in Washington, D.C., United States from August 7 to 10.
