Lecture on “Media Communication with Immersive Technology: Understanding Advertising and News Reporting” (2025 Pre-University Summer Study Scheme)

The Department welcomed local F.5 and F.6 students for a lecture on “Media Communication with Immersive Technology: Understanding Advertising and News Reporting (媒體傳播及虛擬實境科技:廣告與新聞採訪)” on June 10 under the 2025 Pre-University Summer Study Scheme hosted by the University Admissions Office at HKSYU.

The lecture aims at providing an overview of the media communication profession in the digital era. Dr. Crispy Tong, Associate Professor and Acting Head, and Mr. Edgar So, Associate Professor of Practice and Director of BA (Hons) in MDIT, led students to experience the use of immersive technology by playing two immersive technology games: 1) TV News VR (virtual reality) game about media ethics and 2) an advergame with AR (augmented reality) technology. By exploring the topics of media ethics and advergame, students had a basic understanding of the key concepts of digital journalism and advertising, as well as the significance of technology in the industry of media communication.

The 2025 Pre-University Summer Study Scheme offers high school students a broad understanding of modern issues through multiple disciplines including history, psychology, data science, journalism, business, Chinese, and English. By exploring and integrating diverse fields, students gain insight into university-level interdisciplinary education and experience learning at HKSYU.
