Dr. LAU, Kung Wong
Associate Professor

Dr. Lau is an active researcher in XR media and design thinking studies. His ongoing research, teaching and practice areas involves (1) UX/UI in XR (Extended Reality which involves AR/VR/MR/SG); (2) Design Thinking & Creativity; and (3) Communication Studies. Regarding the academic background, Dr. Lau obtained his Ph.D. in the area of studying human/user experiences and virtual reality from the IoE, University College London (UCL), and finished his MSc in Information Technology related subject and BA in Visual/Communication Design (Hons) from the University of Hong Kong (HKU) and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University respectively. Dr. Lau’s interdisciplinary qualifications had shaped him as an expert across advertising, communication, design, media, virtual technology and education. 

Dr. Lau had been working in various universities and tertiary institutes over 23 years. He had been also actively publishing high-end papers in the aforesaid areas internationally for consolidating related theories and explorations. Until 2022, he had hitherto published 90 research papers in diverse international referred journals (including SCI, SSCI and ESCI journals), books, invited book chapters and leading international conferences (with best presenter award). Likewise, Dr. Lau had been undertaking 17 research projects in studying the human computer interaction, the use of virtual reality, augmented reality, serious games, and other interactive platforms for various purposes. He is also actively participating in journal editing and reviewing services by being an associate editor of 6 different journals, reviewer and committee members of over 10 different international journals and conferences. Before Dr. Lau was a university faculty, He had 4-5 years robust experiences in developing and prototyping technology, advertising works and academic programme development.
 
Dr. Lau is being invited as an advisor of the UNESCO, and worked as a chief examiner at the Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority (HKEAA). He was the subject specialist in creative industry for the Hong Kong Council for Academic Accreditation (HKCAA) for years, and an experienced member of the British Education Research Association (BERA) and the Hong Kong Designers’ Association (HKDA) respectively. He was one of the senior members of the government-related committees and NGOs who provides consultancy continuously in both formal and informal ways.
